Our Duty To Challenge The Unjust Raid on the APSP

The NBLM National Unity Initiative joins all those who have condemned the senseless raid and attack of the US government and its FBI on the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), the Uhuru Movement, and its leadership in both St. Petersburg, Florida, and St. Louis, Missouri. We view this attack as a part of the right-ward trend of the US government at the local, state, national, and international levels, trampling on the basic democratic and human rights of the oppressed, both here and abroad.

In April this year, many organizations active in the Black Freedom Struggle joined forces in a joint statement and later in a public forum to condemn US involvement in the Ukraine conflict, citing the US government and NATO policies of aggression toward Russia as the root cause of the conflict. Moreover, the US government continues to allocate billions of dollars in military aid and war material to the Ukraine conflict while failing to enact policies against price gouging in the US inflationary economy and find funds to bring substantial relief for the extremely high cost of living for basic subsistence for those living within US borders and territories.

It is the duty and right of all those fighting for justice, peace, and liberation to oppose US policies that we know are detrimental to the lives, health, and well-being of oppressed people inside the US. It is our duty and right to travel abroad, to investigate, and to act in solidarity with the oppressed worldwide in opposition to the policies of US capitalism and imperialism and to wage those fights both at home and abroad.

We further condemn the FBI’s use of COINTELPRO-type tactics in its attack on the APSP in its attempt to isolate the Uhuru movement from the community by seeking out local black support for its raid while hurling unproven accusations against the movement and its leaders. Sting operations, isolation campaigns, divide and conquer, false rumors, disinformation and character assassination, manufactured conflicts, unlawful surveillance, as well as politically motivated murder, mayhem, and more have historically been used to spike fear, undermine, and disrupt black liberation movement forces.

It is imperative that all Black freedom organizations continue to organize, continue to denounce US/NATO involvement in the Ukraine conflict, and fight to build national unity……a national black united front effort, closely tied to the masses of our people against repression and the ever-deepening crisis of US capitalism and imperialism, both within the US borders and territories and abroad. ###

“To educate the masses politically does not mean, cannot mean, making a political speech. What it means is to try, relentlessly and passionately, to teach the masses that everything depends on them; that if we stagnate it is their responsibility, and that if we go forward it is due to them too, that there is no such thing as a demiurge, that there is no famous man who will take the responsibility for everything, but that the demiurge is the people themselves and the magic hands are finally only the hands of the people.”
