LIBERALISM CRAWLS INTO THE MOUTH OF A RABBIT PRETENDING TO BE A LION

i do not believe my vote matters but i must
how else will my anxiety or guilty conscience
subside if i do not cast a shadow beyond doubt
a rugged sediment stone skipped on a frozen pond
who can i blame when nothing changes but of course
i don’t believe my vote will change oppression’s grip
still i must vote or else what was the last rebellion for
what did we release all that tear gas to do if not
clown smirk in single file fashion off a tower ledge
why did i start going to the church of my father again
if not to be lied to my face and call it daily devotion
my vote my choice my voice my silence to wield
none of your business is my political tendency
hopscotch the sleeping bags in store front walkways
i weave the tents with steel drum fires like a pro
seamstress how i threads the thin line between
what i see outside and white i think a ballot is
bullets ain’t got shit on my election except my
election ain’t mind and bullets built this democracy
i say i want the war to end but i mean shut up
if i excuse enough murder i can be the boss’s
footrest or the necktie of a billionaire one day
blame the clumsy person who fell off the rung
don’t blame the ladder or those who climbed
my vote don’t glisten in the light but it do hang
low like ripe fruit from harvested human insides
my vote don’t matter but it could if this was actually
a land of free people and not a boardroom burnt to ash
