Submit to Hood Communist
We appreciate your interest in submitting to Hood Communist! Before you send in us work, please review all of the following guidelines to ensure a smooth submission process.
Submission Guidelines
- Please closely review our Principles of Unity.
- Note: We exclusively publish African authors.
- Email: hoodcommunist@protonmail.com with the subject “SUBMISSION”
- Format: Submit your article as a Google Doc, Document or CryptPad—we do not accept PDFs.
- Citations: No footnotes—please convert them into hyperlinks within the text, end notes, or a “further reading” section.
- Word Count: There is no minimum word count, but if your submission is a work of lengthy academic scholarship it is worth considering how you might excerpt it.
- Author Info: Be sure to include the name you’d like to publish under and a brief bio if necessary.
What to Expect After Submission
All submissions are reviewed by our editorial team to ensure alignment with our Points of Unity. We strive to present our authors’ voices in their most authentic form and do not make major edits without working closely with the author.
- If edits are needed, you can expect to hear from us within one-two weeks.
- If you do not hear back from us in two-three weeks, we will not be publishing your piece.
- If you do not hear back, your submission is likely being scheduled for posting.
Keep in mind that this blog is led by a very small collective of busy organizers, and sometimes response times may vary. Thank you for contributing to the struggle and we look forward to reading your work.
